We are located close to Kenwood and N Downer Avenue in Milwaukee at the edge of the UWM campus. There are several buses to and from UWM and nearby intersections.

There are three options for parking:

Option 1) Park in our garage behind our house via alley access. Our garage is filled with stuff and our 2 cars—a Nissan Leaf and a VW ID4 (FYI, you can use our L1 trickle charger if you have an electric car) but we can park one of our cars on the street during your stay. The garage may seem like the easiest option but: a) if you have anything larger than a Toyota RAV4 it will be a tight squeeze to get in and out; b) getting in from the alley takes a bit of manoeuvring back and forth; c) compared to option 2 you spend an extra 2-5 mins each time you use the car to find the garage key (we will provide), walk around to the garage, unlock the door, open the garage good, pull car out, close garage door, and lock side door. Most guests choose Option 2.

Option 2) Park on the street during the day and night. This is most convenient, but requires getting a night permit (search for Milwaukee overnight parking permits). This costs $1per night plus $1 booking fee. You have to create an account first with info about yourself and the car and then go back to that page and purchase a permit for the car you just entered for however many nights you want. Not the most user-friendly interface. Technically the owner has to buy the permit but we have done this a few times for guests have found registering their car difficult. There is a seldom enforced 1 hr limit between 8am-4pm on weekdays, but we will cover the cost of a ticket if you overstay this limit (but are otherwise are parked legally). We cannot guarantee the safety of leaving a car on the street overnight but Downer is a busy road and we have not had, or do not know of, any break-ins or thefts etc. on our block in the 2 years we have lived here. We leave our car parked outside overnight on occasions.

Option 3) Park at a local lot during the day and/or overnight. The two closest 24 hr options are about 12 minutes walk about, UW Milwaukee's Sandburg garage (a few blocks north) or Downer Garage (a few blocks south on Belleview and Downer. There is closer UWM parking--Union Garage is 100 yards away but closes at 2am with no overnight parking allowed. We have not used either UWM or Downer Garage but Downer Garage may be more convenient. It is run by Power Parking and you need to set up an account to pay for the parking. FYI, Downer Garage also shows up on the Spothero app.
